SUV Camping Storage Solution
I’ve been struggling putting together a storage solution for our RAV4 that would be lightweight and inexpensive. Majority of the builds required a trip to hardware store for some lumber and screws. This is the exact opposite of what I wanted to do.
Unlike with the Sleeping Platform, I wanted this solution to add as little weight to the car as possible. We’re already a 2 + large dog personnel crew who tends to over pack for simple camping trips. Going lightweight was the only option with hopes of saving some money in gas.
After watching countless youtube videos, reading camping blogs, and doing sketches, this is what we have come up:
1) Install 2 shower rods in the back of your SUV
(54″ long for 2013-2018 RAV4 models)
2) Once done, stick on Velcro Strip.
3) Add some bins on top
4) Add some bins on bottom (best to find what fits your needs)
5) Tent
7) Sleeping Bag
5) Go camping!
(The bin in the back idea is taken from SUV RVing)
Another beautiful thing about this system is that you can have your bins packed and ready for any adventure in your closet. All you gotta do is just quickly set them up in the car and go!
And lastly, something I forgot to point out in this video, you are still able to utilize the spare tire compartment in case of emergency or for extra storage without needing to disassemble your storage solution. It is important that I point that out since majority of builds on youtube tend to take up nearly entire trunk space leaving either barely or completely no room to access the spare tire storage without disassembly or wrenching.
