This thing looks amazing.
Bravo to Alexandre Verdier for such an amazing looking concept. I’ve always been a fan of the VW Type 2, but unfortunately I am too young to have had the full experience of squeezing in with a bunch of hippies on the way to a Phish concert…. that would of been fun (phun?).
Unlike the Chevy Suburban, which is rated the #1 vehicle for camping-type people, this one won’t cost you an arm and a leg just to fill up the tank. That is because this concept (which is planned to be put in production in the summer of 2012) has a diesel hybrid drivetrain.
It will also cost you as little as $129,000… pfft, cheap!
Unfortunately with this price,
no hippie would be able to afford this turbo charged, solar powered, GPS enabled, retro styled, modern marvel with a bloody tv on the dashboard. Which brings me to the “wtf” part of the article: a TV?
People go camping to get away from everyday technology and to connect back with nature, to get away from being smothered with work emails, jealous ex’s texts, and the never-ending bombardment of advertisements in today’s television…. or am I the only one?
The van, dubbed appropriately enough ‘the Verdier’, packages the latest green-tech in a retro body that harkens back to the glory days of the VW bus and packs it full of high-tech gadgetry.
“The philosophy of this car is great,” says Verdier. “It’s a new way to use technology. I want to build a car that’s low impact and makes the most out of nature.”
